ram problem plz help

hey guys ive had a look at a few of the posts to try n solve my problem.

whats happend is ive taken 2x corsair ddr2 1g sticks from my pc and placed them in my parents computer theyve got a pentium4 2.6, p4vmam motherboard i think. and a 230w powersupply running xp.
they only had a old 1x 256 ddr400 stick in it.
went to turn it on and monitor wouldent come on there was power goin to the mother board etc fans were goin harddrive light on the case was on but no power light on the front of the case.
swapped the ram back to the 256 ddr400 n still same problem is there anything i can do to get it working again or hav i rooted the comp
obviously the motherboard doesnt support ddr2 (the ddr2 1g sticks still work in my computer)

any help will be greatly appriciated as i dnt really wanna fork out the $$ for new parts :(

Re: ram problem plz help

if it did not support ddr2 they would not have fit as the keying would be different
the board uses ddr if you forced them partially in you have probably shorted out the
m/board
from the specs
• Memory:
2 x 184-pin DDR SDRAM
PC3200 (DDR400) DDR SDRAM
Maximum 2GB

Re: ram problem plz help

the 1g ddr2 sticks fitted in fine, didnt need to force em in, wuld the ddr2 be too much for the m/board to handle?

Re: ram problem plz help

yes if thats what happend
you have listed the correct m/b
http://www.biostar-usa.com/mbdetails.asp?model=P4VMA-M

cmos reset
turn the computer off
remove the power lead from the back
take the side off
remove the cmos battery
move the cmos jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pin 2 and 3 and the back to pins 1 and 2
reinsert the battery
put the side on
replug in the power lead
boot the computer

there can be 2 solder points you touch with a screwdriver
2 pins you touch with a screwdriver or use a jumper
a cmos clear switch or button
there will be a diagram and instructions in your manual
