Should I get a new PSU?

Right now I am only running an Athlon 3800+, 2 hard drives, 7600GT, DVD burner, CD drive, 3 80mm fans and 1 120mm fan. Hardly use USB items. I currently have the CoolerMaster RPP 650. I am thinking of going to a newer Intel rig, probably an E8400 or 8500 and I would probably then go to at least a 9800GT. All other specs would remain the same more than likely.

If it were your system, would you move up to a 750 or maybe even an 850 for future upgrades? Or would the 650 still be okay for now?

the Egg has the Corsair 750TX for $120 but they now have the 850TX for $150.

No question about this one if it was my rig. I would spell for that new 850 in a heartbeat. That is a great price also and one of the best on the market. If you go for the 850, it would future proof you and I suspect from what you said, you will be upgrading as new things come out.

Your present power supply would not do the job for you (too small in wattage) and it is not in the same league as a Corsair power supply that has 850 watts. The RPP is a nice unit, but just not big enough. I would sell that 650 on Ebay and recoup some of your loss.

Cool, thanks. Also, I mostly stick with Gigabyte mb's but I am not sure which to go with. Any suggestions?

My personal preference in the Asus boards, but Gigabyte are just as good and many techs on here use mostly Gigabyte boards. If I were building a new one today with what you are building, I would be looking at the P5Q deluxe, or at least one of those P5Q models (not the stipped ones, but with some features). It depends upon what you want on the board, but that would be my choice.

Again, don't overlook the Gigabyte boards, they are also great. BTW, I have the e8400 CPU and it is great. I am running mine on a P5K e wi/fi board. My suggestion would be to go for the e8500 for the best performance/cost ratio and pair it with a good P5Q deluxe or similar board.

Addendum: You mentioned that you were considering ASUS in your post, but while I was typing, you have edited that out. Therefore, forget the Asus information.

Also, if you have a few spare bucks, an e8600 would be even better than the e8500....just thought I would throw that in.

Don't mind Asus. I plan on staying with nVidia and some of the Gigabyte boards say they are Crossfire, so I would assume I would have to go with ATi cards. I don't have any issue with Asus, I just have always used Gigabytes. Thanks for the replys!
