Am I drawing too much power? How?
I've recently installed an additional 2GB of RAM into my system. When running something that demanded high graphics performance (from integrated graphics), I was forcefully rebooted. I ran SpeedFan to check for over-voltages. Here's a screenshot.
![]() I notice I'm drawing 5.67V on the 5V rail. What devices should I look into as I'm not in a good position to buy a new PSU. Specs AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ 2GB DDR2 RAM (1 stick, after removing the other stick which was 1GB) ECS GeForce 7050-M-M (latest BIOS, drivers, etc.) Thermaltake PurePower 500-Watt ATX 12V 2.0 1 HDD (IDE), 1 DVD +/- RW (SATA) Thanks! -oppdis |

Re: Am I drawing too much power? How?
I am not sure that is accurate. Some times these program report voltages and temperatures that are not accurate and/or a sensor might be acting up. Normally, I like to check the bios voltages and temperatures, because they are normally the most accurate. I would start by doing that.
What video card are you trying to run with a 500 watt power supply? You might have an issue in that area if it is a decent video card.

Re: Am I drawing too much power? How?
The RSM is pulling about 1.8V (last I checked, that is a stable amount for DDR2), and the CPU about 3.3V.
Any idea what other devices I should consider looking into? -oppdis |

Re: Am I drawing too much power? How?
the onboard 7050 i dont think is a terribly bad chip. Granted it's still onboard.
I don't think you're overdrawing yet, but what I do see is that you need to check your RAM timings (typically 5-5-5-15 for 2 GB sticks), as well as you're only in single channel RAM mode.

Re: Am I drawing too much power? How?
just for the record, the thermaltake pure power is a horrible low quality power supply .............. I would not be shocked to find that wayyyy out of spec voltages

Re: Am I drawing too much power? How?
Thanks for the help guys. It turned out to be a RAM issue, not the PSU.
Still gonna upgrade my PSU though. I need a little wiggle room for future expansion. :) -oppdis |
