Question About Upgrading Memory on Dell Dimension 2400
I'm upgrading the memory in my friend's desktop, but could use some clarification with the maximum amount of memory supported. The Dimension 2400 manual lists the maximum memory as 1GB (2 x 512mb), but crucial says it can support up to 2GB (http://www.crucial.com/store/listpar...02400%20Series).
The motherboard is a Bluford E139765. Thanks for any help! Last edited by dmurr; 12-21-2008 at 06:51 PM. |

Re: Question About Upgrading Memory on Dell Dimension 2400
I'd guess that there was a BIOS update that allowed the two 512's . . I have installed that on several 2400's with the newest BIOS
Edit: . . Ijust looked at the specs . . Dell says it can use up to two 512B for a total of 1 Gig http://support.dell.com/support/edoc...m_en/specs.htm

Re: Question About Upgrading Memory on Dell Dimension 2400
Thanks for the responses. It looks like the consensus is that I should go with Dell over Crucial and stick with a max of 1GB. I have another question though.
Dell lists the fastest speed as PC2700 but Crucial says PC3200 will work as well. Will I see any benefits of 3200 over 2700? Also, I imagine I should follow what Dell says and do 2 x 512MB rather than 1 x 1GB? |
