Ram shows wrong speed

Hi, I have an Acer Aspire T180 and just recently upgraded my ram from pc2 5300 to Crucial Ballistix pc2 8500. My problem is that even though the ram was bought new and even says 8500 1066 on it after its installed it shows up as 6400 800 in my diagnostic software. I have tried several different programs and they all see it as 800 mhz instead of 1066 mhz. Any idea why it would not show up correctly? Any help would be appreciated....................Thanks , Tim

My System

Re: Ram shows wrong speed

It seems your laptops motherboard can only run 800mhz and not anything faster - so the RAM has underclocked itself.

Re: Ram shows wrong speed

I ran a memory test at crucial.com to see what was compatible with my system and these were on there. Im thinking it might be because my bios is old so im flashing it now to see if that helps.

Re: Ram shows wrong speed

well i found out that I needed a bios update to fix a support issue with the DDR2 1066 memory so I updated flashed the bios through windows as instructed by the acer website and now after it rebooted none of my programs will start. Everything looks fine after reboot, the gadgets are on the right side ,the start button works and i can even open programs running on the task bar but if i try to open anything else (internet explorer, windows explorer etc.) All i get is an hour glass and nothing ever opens. any ideas? i didnt think the bios flash controlled any of these items. Once it booted into windows I thought I was alright but I guess not.
