DDR vs DDR2

Hi - sent off for new RAM - requested 1GB 533MHz DDR2 SODIMM MEM16 but received 1GB 533MHz DDR SODIMM MEM16. I did not notice this till after installing it. It recognises the new DDR but ignores my old DDR2 512Mb stick.
I hope this is reason for the problem.
I am running Satellite Toshiba L100-179, XP (SP3)
Any ideas? Am I right in my diagnosis?

Thanks

Re: DDR vs DDR2

DDR did not come in 533Mhz speed so I would think you got DDR2.
Did you put the new ram in the slot the old ram was used or into a empty slot?
You may want to check the old ram is fully seated in the slot they can be hard to put in easy to knock loose sometimes.

Re: DDR vs DDR2

If I take the 1G B Ram out, (I have two slots) my machine recognises the the 512mb stick (without touching it) - so it is seated correctly. The minute I put the 1GB in - it reverts to only seeing the 1GB slot again. Very strange! Downloaded Berlac and that what it reads!

Re: DDR vs DDR2

Try switching the sticks around.

Re: DDR vs DDR2

Re: DDR vs DDR2

If it recognizes 2 512's but not anything with the 1 gig the I would have to think the 1 gig stick is not compatible with the laptop you should be using 2 matched sticks for dual channel mode which is faster then single channel mode with unmatched sticks.
