Ram problem

Help please

My motherboard supports
2 x 240-pin DIMM sockets support unbuffered non-ECC 400/533 MHZ DDR2 memory modules

i had a 1gb ram from kingston, 533MHZ. recently i bought another 1gb ram also from kingston 667MHZ. after plugging them in, BIOS says 'not installed' for one of the slots.

could it be that the ram is incompatitable?
however, when i tried with only the 667 ram, it works.
what could be the problem? thank you

Re: Ram problem

The ram you are using is backward compatible. Place the 667 in the 1st slot and then the 533 in the 2nd slot. Both will/should run at the lower speed.

Re: Ram problem

In theory this computer is suppose to clock down to 533 if both speeds are installed together. However, occasionally you'll have a motherboard that might be a bit finicky about it and not run stable if different speeds are installed. If both modules work alone then you know the issue is directly related to the two sticks working together. The solution is to match them up and use the same speed. Return the 667 and buy another 533.
