Triple Channel RAM

Hi all

I am thinking of getting the new Asus P6T Deluxe Motherboard, it take triple channel RAM according to its spec and i have no idea what that means.

when searching sites it also has different speeds of triple channel RAM, so is triple channel RAM the same as DDR3 and DDR2 or something completely different and what speed should i go for with the P6T

Can someone help me please?

Re: Triple Channel RAM

The Core i7 CPU's have onboard memory control, which requires triple channel. It's the same as dual channel, but requires sticks in sets of 3 instead of 2. Unlike dual channel RAM, word is triple channel simply won't work unless all 3 sticks are identical, where dual channel reverts to single channel mode if the sticks dont match.

Re: Triple Channel RAM

Thx for the reply.

im going to get the Asus P6T mobo:
HTML Code:

This spec doesnt tell me what RAM speed i need, it just tells me that it 'supports' triple channel DDR3, Does anyone know what RAM speed the P6T takes?

Could you please recommend me some RAM to get from this site:

Interesting that Asus does not have a Memory QVL listed for this board yet and I been reading about problems with the Ram running at rated voltages seems people are having to bump it up to 1.8v to get it to run right, not sure what that will do to the life span of the modules.

I guess getting whats on a QVL list isnt all that important, Where have you read about getting the voltage up to 1.8v and is this hard to do?

I forget which one it was but i read that either putting too many volt on the RAM or processor fries it in minutes, there is a very fine line!

Re: Triple Channel RAM

with the I7 cpu's when you increase the voltage to the memory you are also increasing the voltage to the cpu memory controller ....... these controllers are bing killed at voltages of 1.6 volts or higher

I would not buy any memory that is not listed by either crucial or corsair for your motherboard model ................ they both have memory advisors or selectors

the bugs are still being worked out for these boards/cpu's and memory in a major way ........ I really hope you enjoy frustration and tweaking and spending $$$....... as well as the thrill of victory ?
