power supply fan always on
Hi,
I have an antec power supply 350W that when I completely shut down, the fans on the PSU keep running. I have to actually flip the switch on the back of it to shut them off. I have unplugged all optical and HDD drives from the MB and PSU, and still the fans run. Could it be the PSU is bad (like maybe a short), or is it something else. When I boot up I get the "DISK FAILURE" screen. I unplug and re-plug in the HDD using the ribbon cable and then it boots up and works fine. It is a new ribbon cable. It happened using the the old cable as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks sst1226 |

Re: power supply fan always on
The fan continuing to run is most likely a PSU failing the second problem with the hard drive may or may not be related.
Do you have or can you borrow one to test with? |

Re: power supply fan always on
thanks for the quick response. I don't have another PSU or tester. That was my thought that the unit may have seen its last leg. Any suggestions on another one. I have 2 optical drives and 2 HDD's, and 1 FD, & 256mb video card. the motherboard has the 20 pin + 4 connector.
thanks sst1226 |

Re: power supply fan always on
some power supplies are programed to keep runing until the system tempreture drops then close down
a 350w psu is light on for recent computers

Re: power supply fan always on
I wasn't aware of that. It never did that before, and I never got the "DISK FAILURE" error before either. So I am inclined to believe there is a problem elsewhere, as stated in my earlier posts. Thanks for the info!

Re: power supply fan always on
get a new CPU, and if the drive is greater then 127 GB, get a 80 cable.
I've actually had problems with HDD's under 127 and/or old motherboards. But it's a big factor in error reduction
