Computer turns on then off...

This started this morning when I rolled out of bed and went to hit the power button on my computer, and to my horror I shocked it. The computer powered on for like 5 seconds and then shut right back off. I tried to turn it back on by pressing the button but it didnt work. I turned the psu switch off and then back on and the computer turned on immediately, without me even pressing the power button. I tried a few more times, and same thing so I hopped on my laptop and looked it up and found a few things to try. I tried unplugging everything from the psu except the mobo, and same thing happened. I tried unplugging the wire from the power button to the mobo and still when I flipped the psu switch the computer would turn on and then back off. I also went to the store and bought a new psu which did the exact same thing. I also took a flashlight and checked out the mobo for any obvious damage and found nothing.

Any ideas of things I could try or what the problem might be?

Re: Computer turns on then off...

The power button isn't stuck, is it? Take the side cover off and physically disconnect the power switch from the mobo front panel connectors and see if it still starts when you turn on the PSU. If it doesn't then the switch is the most likely culprit. Test by momentarily shorting the 2 pins that the power switch connects to with a screwdriver - it should startup normally.
