Buying RAM: simple question

I just need to know if my computer can run two different sizes of RAM at the same time. I have two sticks of 512mb in it right now, and I want to buy two sticks of 1g. Will this work?

Misc. Info:
1. Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-6400 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.
2. I have 4 slots (2 banks of 2)
3. I have Vista (I don't know how to tell if it's 32- or 64-bit) and an Asus A8M2N-LA (NodusM) motherboard

Also, what RAM would you suggest I buy for gaming? Oblivion is running very slow for me with an nVidia GeForce 8800 GT card, so I assume it's a RAM problem.

Yes 1 gig per slot should work go here and use the HP model number for your system>http://www.crucial.com/
Get the part number of the compatible ram sticks and Google for the best price.
