Computer wont boot - PSU problem?

Hi, there TSF!

I've got this weird problem that occured to me just the other day, which I think is caused by my shitty PSU (250 watts). When I press the power button it sounds like the computer takes a breath and then gives up, if you catch my drift... All the fans starts for a second, and then dead. Sometimes the fans start normally, (though pretty rare) but I get no picture from the GFX. It ran perfectly before I got this problem.

I think the PSU is the cause of this because my GFX (nvidia 8800GT 512 MB) eats something like 250-300 watts of PSU alone, after what I've heard/read I changed the GFX myself, I used to have a 7600 LE or equally, I also upgraded my RAM by 2 gigs, and got myself a better CPU. So I might basicly just've burned my PSU.

What I need is confirmation; Is this a PSU issue, or could this be caused by something else, like a broken solder on the motherboard or something? It can't be the Ram/GFX/CPU becuase I've tried about 3 different models of them each (which are supposed to work, I know quite a lot about building computers).

Thanks in advance, hope someone arsed to read my text !

Re: Computer wont boot - PSU problem?

You need to edit the curse word you uttered in the beginning of post.
Sh****. Bad language not allowed as alot of children come in here.
Forum policy.
Your psu is more than likely the culprit. You may have fried the
motherboard. Underpowering like that stresses everything...

Hm, I'm terribly sorry for my awful language. I don't know how to edit my own post so I'm somewhat paniced here!

Thanks for answering, do you have any PSU you could recommend perhaps, for my computer, most common used for gaming? my rig is 8800GT 512 mb, 3gb ram, amd 5400+ x2.

Im not saying the language is awful, it could be worse. Im not the
language police. Im just saying that its against the rules, we try to keep
order in this forum. This is a neutral type of forum, if youve been
around other forums you see them run rampant. Not really trying to
help, but put down and shame people. I hate that. Once youve gone
though the humiliation then you might get some help. We dont do that
here. We help alot of people, and keep some sense of order. Just keep
that in mind. If you let this slide and then let that slide, it can become
a problem. Maybe a mod will come in and edit the comment, just be
aware of your language, no harm no foul...
As far as psu's, alot of folks will spend $500.00 on a video card, and
scrimp for a $30.00 psu, those days are gone....26amps on the 12volt
rail/rails for a pci-e video card, minimum. The consider the efficeincy
rating, do the math,,,take care,,,,,
