blue screen error

i have a toshiba sattalite that i just installed a new 1 gb memory chip in. it had to 500mb's before that. now it has the 1 gb in one slot and the 500 in the other. since the install, and never before the install, my computer shuts down if i dont keep messing with it. like if i try to watch a movie or let the screen saver pop up. its running faster and the card is working but why does it keep shutting down now. can anyone help pretty please.

Re: blue screen error

The two ram modules may be incompatible with each other. Try removing the 500mb ram and rebooting. If that works fine, remove that ram and install the 1gb ram and reboot. If that works fine the problem is compatibility with both ram modules working against each other.
