Re: No signal to monitor in two identical PC's
Do you have a speaker connected to here the beep codes?
Do you get a beep code when you fire it up with no ram installed? If the CPU is inserted properly (only goes in one way and it should have just fallen into the slots with hardly any force), and you are sure of all the connections. I would say the Mobo has shorted out. Bill |

Re: No signal to monitor in two identical PC's
I've always had my speakers plugged in when I've been listening for beeps but I was told today that the motherboard itself can produce the sound? Is this not true? There have never been any beeps, with or without speakers.

Re: No signal to monitor in two identical PC's
Some boards have a built in speaker to produce the beep codes. I was not sure about this board though.
Did you get a beep code with the ram removed? Have you benched tested both boards? Bill |

Re: No signal to monitor in two identical PC's
We have benchtested both boards now, although I left all the RAM in mine. I will benchtest mine later on without the RAM in, and with speakers plugged in. If I don't hear anything, I'll buy two new motherboards. Not particularly expensive, and still a lot cheaper than paying someone else to build the PC!
Thanks for all the advice. If nothing else, I learnt a hell of a lot from this little error, and am now the proud owner of an excellent Corsair 750W power supply, as opposed to the cheap Trust one, which would only have caused problems in the long run. |

Re: No signal to monitor in two identical PC's
The speaker is not one that hooks up to the audio ports in the back but a special MB speaker it may have come with the MB or with the case>

Re: No signal to monitor in two identical PC's
New mobos arrived today, my mate rebuilt his PC and it works like a charm. I haven't built mine yet but I'm confident it'll be fine. So...problem solved

Re: No signal to monitor in two identical PC's
Hi,
![]() I am sorry you had to replace the MoBo, but you learn by experience. Hopefully your professor will give you an A. He should I think because you made the attempt (at a cost), but you had also seeked guidance (very resourcefull). In the end you have the system up and running. I bet you will never forget about the risers again. Was the MoBos covered under warranty? Bill |

Re: No signal to monitor in two identical PC's
Thanks for all the help, this is an excellent resource. You're right, I have learned so much from building this PC and to be honest if this problem hadn't come up I would never have bought a better PSU, which would only have lead to far worse problems in the future, so really it was a stroke of luck!
Can't be sure whether we just had two faulty mobos or whether we fried them with our stupid mistake but you're right, I'll never forget the risers again! Can anyone tell me how to mark this thread as solved? I can't remember how to do it. |
