[SOLVED] searching for decent PSU on a budget

Ok, I'm intending on upgrading my graphics card to a GeForce 9800GTX. I know now that my current PSU is way underpowered. I believe that my configuration would do well with a 600-650 watt PSU. Now I'm quite lost at sifting through the various manufacturers. I see that even with similar specs, the prices vary wildly. Can anyone tell me a brand/model that is reputable, but not necessarily at the highest tier of pricing?

Any suggestions would help me clear up the confusion!

Re: searching for decent PSU on a budget

For a 9800GTx to run properly and not overwork the PSU you would need about 700w in normal mid range Intel gaming rig with a couple of hard drives and 1 or 2 cd/dvd drives

Re: searching for decent PSU on a budget

how about this one after promo EMCBACEAH and MIR its only $69.99?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...L2B-_-17703005

cause i was thinking about getting a 9800 gt also and i know this one is not quite 700 watts but i heard a 600watt one should be okay as long as there is a good amount of amps on the 12v rail, is that true?

oh the prices vary because even if you have 2 psu that is 600watts, one could only have 18a on the 12v rail while another has like 48a and the amps also needs to be consider when installing video cards that draw a lot of power.

Re: searching for decent PSU on a budget

The main thing you want to look at with that video card is the fact that it pulls 26amps on the 12v rail so you want at least 26 amps on the 12v rail then you need to add up the wattage of all parts in the computer and then ad a couple 100 watts for latter upgrades.

Re: searching for decent PSU on a budget

That is an excellent PSU but 610w is just too small, look for a price on a PP&C 700w
