Switching off

Hi i wasnt sure where to put this so I put it here...Anyway
Recently my computer keeps shutting itself off, it does not go through the shut down procedure and only seems to lose power for a split second, the blue ring around my power button barely stops glowing and it just seems to almost restart, yet I have no idea why it is doing this. It seems to do it about every 3 hours and no warning message comes up when it starts again saying I haven't shut my pc down properly.
I have herd this cud be due to overheating but i dont think so as I have had this b4 and the computer actually needs turning on again and does not do it, itself.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Switching off

First of all, please list all your specs including the power supply brand name and watts.

Also, enter the bios setup menu and list the temps and the voltages that you find there.

Re: Switching off

Pull the side of the computer case off and it will be there printed right on the power supply.

Your CPU is way...................too..................hot, if this reading is correct. Look in the bios and see what it says about the temperatures.

Re: Switching off

Ok i have looked at BIOS and those temperatures are correct. I have also opened up my pc and vaccumed as much dust as possiblie out. There is little if any difference in cpu temp. Is there anything else i can do to lower the cpu temp.
In alll honesty my pc is really slow, with very limited ram and graphic capabilties so im thinking of getting a new one, i jst need this one to last for 6 months or so until i can afford a new one.
thanks

Re: Switching off

Yes, you can buy those cans at Wally World or a coputer store for less than five bucks. When you look at those temps, you may need to change your thermal paste to get the temperatures under control. If you decide to do that, here are instructions:

Applying Artic Silver Thermal Paste

Don't forget to clean off the old as per instructions before adding new and follow directions exactly as specified in the link above. BTW, always unplug from the wall and ground yourself before getting in that case.

Re: Switching off

Hi, I just opened my pc and gave a good clean with an dust cleaner and a lot of dust seemed to come from the fans, heatsink.
Had a bit of a panic wen turning on my pc again as it kept shutting down after 5 seconds, I think I hav fixed tht is i did not attatch the fan properley.
Anyway turns out tht the dust cleaning did not do anything, and I may be paranoid but the temp seems to have even gone UP by a couple of degrees.
Do you think my only option now is thermal paste?
Also, I have whacked a office fan next to my intake fan for the cpu and it seems to be knocking off 5-6 degrees in temp. Is this a bad idea?

Re: Switching off

Quite frankly, you do need to clean off the old thermal paste and redo it. Any time you break that seal between the CPU/Heatsink, it must be redone. Get some Artic Silver 5 and give it a go.
