d845gvsr mobo RAM advice
I'm gearing up for a RAM upgrade for my backup system- this is my system right now:
CPU Arch : 1 CPU - 1 Cores - 1 Threads CPU PSN : Intel Celeron CPU 2.60GHz CPU EXT : MMX SSE SSE2 CPUID : F.2.9 / Extended : F.2 CPU Cache : L1 : 12 / 8 KB - L2 : 128 KB Core : Northwood (0.130) / Stepping : D1 Freq : 2599.87 MHz (100 * 26) MB Brand : Intel MB Model : D845GVSR NB : Intel i845G rev A1 SB : Intel 82801DB (ICH4) rev 01 GPU Type : GeForce FX 5200 GPU Clocks : Core 250 MHz / RAM 332 MHz DirectX Version : 9.0c RAM : 512 MB DDR RAM Speed : 133.3 MHz (3:4) @ 2.5-2-2-6 Slot 1 : 256MB (PC3200) Slot 1 Manufacturer : Samsung Slot 2 : 256MB (PC3200) Slot 2 Manufacturer : MOSEL seeing as my machine supports upto 2GB of RAM- this is what I'm aiming to purchase and install. I consulted the d845gvsr user's guide at the intel site and I'm perplexed - it states that with my P4 2.60ghz CPU I have a FSB of 400mhz and recomends RAM of DDR266 or DDR200 My question is will DDR333 work as it appears I'm already using PC3200? I know alot of ram is backwards compatible and will run at lower clock speeds. My main purchasing factor for the pc3200/ or pc2700 low density, non-ecc = is that I can walk into a local computer store and pick it up right away with out going through an online source and waiting 1-2 weeks for shipping for PC2100 - and again my system seems to be showing we're already up and running with pc3200 - can anyone help me make sense of this and offer some good advice and possibly save me some legwork and time. |

Re: d845gvsr mobo RAM advice
yup the ram sure worked - I picked up a better processor too - a 3.067GHZ P4 chip with hyperthreading - I would say the PC is twice as fast now - it's really nice- its a shame this board only has pci slots - my nvidia 5200 is holding back the machine for gaming - If i can find a replacement motherboard that supports my ram and CPU and give me PCI-E I'd be a happy camper.

Re: d845gvsr mobo RAM advice
I don't remember a board that took DDR and had a PCIex16 slot, this is about the best of what you can get new in a 478 pin, PCIe but it's DDR2> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130178

Re: d845gvsr mobo RAM advice
DUDE!
I didn't even expect a reply on my follow up - but I appreciate it - I'm thinking I'm gonna bide my time on ebay and see if I can find a board that supports my surplus Radeon X1600 VGA video card + the current RAM +CPU - my goal would be to find one under $50 with shipping. That PCI-E board you linked looks great - but for the price + ram + a better PSU + PCIE card - I'm getting close to the price of a store bought dual core= if that's the route I take - I may as well just spend an extra $300-$500 and get a slick quadcore. |
