Ram is shown 160mb instead of 384mb

Hi,

In my system I am having two SD rams ( 256mb + 128mb). It used to show 384mb earlier. I am having windows xp in my machine. Unfortunately my os got corrupted and I repaired it. Then on wards it started showing 160mb. I don't know what is the issue with it.

I thought of fixing this problem and downloaded some ram repairing tools in to my machine. One of the tool was showing Physical memory is 160mb and virtual memory allocated is 384mb. I suspect ram memory being allocated for virtual memory. I tried to change the virtual memory related settings, but the ram memory is not recovered.

Please let me know what could be the problem.

Thanks & Regards,
Venkat.

Re: Ram is shown 160mb instead of 384mb

Hi,

I tried with only 128mb stick. It logged and showing ram memory 128mb fine.

I tried with only 256mb. It is showing only 32mb and not logged in.

That's why it is showing 128 +32 = 160mb on logging in with two sticks. If the ram has any problem it should fail completly. But why it is showing 32mb in the initial screen. How can we free the remaining memory of 256 slot.

Thanks for your help.

Venkat.

Re: Ram is shown 160mb instead of 384mb

In BIOS it is showing as

Base Memory 640k
Extended Memory 161792k
Total Memory 162816k

Totally it is showing as 160MB
