Exclamation Won't start

Don't know where to put this. When I push the power button the fans start and lights go on, but there is no bios beep, I don't know whether it would be the motherboard, power supply or the hard drive. Sometimes the initial screen shows up but then the computer switches off, then seconds later restarts.

PLEASE HELP!!!

Re: Won't start

turn the computer off
remove the power lead from the back
take the side off
remove the cmos battery
move the cmos jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pin 2 and 3 and the back to pins 1 and 2
reinsert the battery
put the side on
replug in the power lead
boot the computer

there can be 2 solder points you touch with a screwdriver
2 pins you touch with a screwdriver or use a jumper
a cmos clear switch or button
there will be a diagram and instructions in your manual

redo the paste on the cpu with some arctic silver
http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_s...structions.htm

post your specs
what are you running
video card
cpu
m/board
ram
power supply
brand
wattage

check the listings in the bios for voltages and tempretures and post them

Confused Re: Won't start

video card: nVidia Galaxy 9500GT
cpu: Intel Core2Duo E8500
m/board: ASUS PK5-SE
ram: 2GB Kingston
power supply: Not sure, 580W
I made it

I don't want to turn it off in case it does it again so I can't check the voltage or temps in bios.

Re: Won't start

take the side off the case and look at the psu label for the brand
did it post and reboot ok after the bios reset,if so it should start again
we need the information of the temps and voltages
check for a bios update for the m/board the reboot was fixed in a bios update
if you have the original bios this could be the cause of the reboot

Angry Re: Won't start

Posted fine, turned it off, came to the screen, found these out:

CPU Temp: 45C/114.5F
MB Temp: 27C/80.5F

VCORE Voltage [1.200V]
3.3V Voltage [3.344V]
5V Voltage [5.160V]
12V Voltage [12.152V]

Now it won't restart or boot.

Angry Re: Won't start

Finally found the sticker with the brand on it, the sticker was against the other wall of the case, it's called CODOGEN

The thermal paste I had put on about 2 hours before I originally posted this thread, but I've redone it, and now that I've turned it off, it won't start again.

Cry Still won't start properly

Ok, so several hundred dollars later I've bought a new power supply, and my computer STILL won't start.
It's NOT the power supply.
If I clear the CMOS (props to dai for telling me how to) then the computer will load fine, but it won't start if I've just turned it off, I have to clear the CMOS again before I can turn it on.
Also, when it does come up again after clearing the CMOS it has 2 options;
1) Press F1 for set up
2) Press F2 to load defaults and continue.

If I press F2 the computer will continue to load fine, but when it's turned off it won't start again.

If I press F1 and set the time and date and check over the settings, when I press F10 to save, once the computer restarts it won't show anything on the screen or POST or beep at all.

Please please please help me.

Thumbs Down Re: Won't start

Still no dice, and I've honestly had enough of spending money on things that you tell me are the cause of the problem, only to have them not be, up to $135 now and still no working computer. Think I should have just taken it to a professional.

Re: Won't start

set it up out of the case where you can get a good look at everything
on a piece of cardboard with
cpu
video
ram
speaker
and see if you get post
check you have the correct amount of standoffs no more no less
that they line up with the holes in the m/board
usually 9
