i've almost tried everything but my pc still freezes. pls help me

hi guys, i must admit that i'm really annoyed of my computer. i almost tried everything i read here in the internet from different forums. so here's the problem, my computer freezes instantly every time i play counter strike, and warcraft. it also freezes randomly when i surf the net, playback music and videos.

a friend and a few forums in the net suggested it might be a thermal problem. so i cleaned up the cpu fan and applied a new coat of thermal paste because i noticed that the residual paste from the first application was then powdered. i also installed an additional fan to deal with the heat problem. i also cleaned the rest of the components. when i put them back together, i thought my problem was solved because i was able to play without any freezing throughout the night. not until the next day when i tried to play again. it froze again while i was playing!

so my friend suggested that i should reinstall windows. after formatting and installing windows (windows xp black edition), i also installed memtest, and speedfan and updated all of my drivers. the memtest results showed no errors. about the speedfan, i dont honestly dont know what i should do with it because im a noob but these are the rsults:

i dont know if my power supply is still a good one and im not sure if my video card is the culprit. as for now, i dont want to buy a new power supply or a new video card because im afraid that i might just waste money. here is the specs of my computer:

40 gig hardisk + 80 gig hardisk
dvdrw
video card (256 mb inno3d fx5500)
memory (1 gig ddr2)
motherboard (ECS P4M800)
processor (pentium D dual core 2.66ghz)
power supply(boka 5300WA)

so, any suggestions? thanks in advance!

First what is Windows XP Black Edition?? IF it's not a legit MS edition start there hacks are notorious for having problems.
Go the the PC health page in your Bios and post the voltages listed for the 12v,5v,3.3v rails and while your there get the temps listed also.
Take a look at the label on your PSU and give us the Brand and Model total watt rating and the rating on the 12v rail.

Re: i've almost tried everything but my pc still freezes. pls help me

hi. first, sorry for the mistake, i have windows dark edition v.6. here is the snap shot of the system:

i cant find any pc health page in the bios so instead i chose to view the system hardware monitor since it is the only page that contains voltage and temperature ratings. here is the info:
= system hardware monitor =
cpu temp: 50 C/122 F
system fan speed: n/a
cpu fan speed: 2636 rpm
Vcore: 1.264 V
Vivdd: 1.568 V
Vdimm: 1.856 V
Vcc5v: 4.919 V
SB3V: 3.232 V
Vbat: 3.232 V
smart fan control: disabled

i think my psu has 500 watts since i searched the net for similar models. by the way, my power supply is the only part of my computer that i haven't replaced since 2002. here are the values listed on the label of the psu:

thanks for the help!

Re: i've almost tried everything but my pc still freezes. pls help me

Maybe you should try installing a legit version of windows XP and see if that helps. It is very hard to diagnose a problem when you are using a cracked variation of a commercial OS.

Considering your problem is application based, there is probobly something wrong with the OS, or the OS-hardware compatability.

9 amp output on the 12v rail won't power a laptop correctly.
You need at least 26 amps on the 12v rail

that's what the label on the power supply reads.. and i've been using this psu for about 7 1/2 years prior to this problem. i've had this problem for about 6 months. so what do you suggest, should i buy a new psu or try to install a legitimate OS first? thnx

Re: i've almost tried everything but my pc still freezes. pls help me

If you been running it that under powered for that long it's possible to have other problems but there's only one way to find out put a better Psu in it and see what it does if it's a AGP card you will only need 18 amps on the 12v for a PCIE video card it's 26 amps
If you want a psu to use in a future system look for at least a 650w quality unit, for something that will just power what you have now then around 450w will work> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139003

Providing you do have a standard size case and not a SFF or Small Form Factor
