Blue screen when launching a game [Moved from XP]
Hello,
It is the first time i post a thread so be undersatanding if i make mistakes. My problem is that when i try to launch a game, a blue screen appers with the message "IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL" .The same screen apprears when i tried to watch a movie. So i disabled the direct3d hardware acceleration and now i am able to see movies without encountering a blue screen. But it seems that direct3d is essential for a game to run so when i tried to run a game,a message appeared "directx encountered an unrecovable error..." and the game didnt start.I downloaded the latest directx, and the latest drivers for my Nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS but the problem remains.I believe it is a directx problem but yet i cant fix it.I bought this video card last christmas, and after five months the blue screen started appear.I formatted the driver and it started appearing again at August. So i reformatted the disc and it started appearing last week. I would much appreciate it if someone could help me with this problem |

Re: Blue screen when launching a game
Make sure when you install the new drivers, you uninstall the old ones, it def could be a problem with the memory, but it sounds more like a problem with the vid card, what game are you trying to run? Few things, make sure you meet the minimum requirements AT LEAST.. it's better to have more, if you don't it will give you the bsod
So it's either going to be the Video card itself not being able to handle the graphics, the memory, or your drivers are conflicting with eachother |

As i say in the first message it is a problem i have encountered before the last format.During that period i had run memtest but it found no problem with my memories.Concerning, the uninstallation of directx i used perfect uninstaller. It is a useful program that erases completely(even from the registry) the program you want to uninstall.I also uninstalled my nvidia drivers and directx and downloaded the latest, but the problem remains. The game that i try running is call of duty 4, and i meet the recommended requirements
Enjoy yourself with the simulator dicharry!I believe that my problem as i have mentioned is caused by direct3d/.Because when i try to test it at dxdiag the bsod appears and when i turn it off i am able to watch movies. But it seems that it is important for call of duty 4 because when it is turned off and i try to run the game message:"directx encountered an unrecovable error..." So what i am supposed to do now?And how am i going to be sure that i have uninstalled completely the previous drivers and directx in order to reinstall them? Wiil someone help me,PLEASE!!!!! Re: Blue screen when launching a game
Godfather1109,
Private message moderator Justpassingby and ask that he please take a look at your post. If you scroll through the MS XP posts you'll see how prolific his knowledge is. It is astounding to me how many responses he has given. Sometimes there are just so many posts a moderator can respond to and as time goes by, a post tends to get buried in the forum. It's likely the more recent posts get the response. Justpassingby does not accept email (understandable!) but he does accept pm's, so it would be worth a try. Good Luck and Best Regards, Don |

Re: Blue screen when launching a game
Ok, so this is happening not only when playing COD4, but as well as movies? movies in what program? iTunes? it looks like the vid card should be able to handle the game at least.. Ok here's what you may have to do, in your nVidia control panel, try going to Manage 3D settings, and in the bottom right corner you should see a button there that says Restore, click that and try it

Re: Blue screen when launching a game
Answer dai's questions, the issue could be hardware related. Follow the posting system specs link in my sig, try to be as precise as you can and enter your specs in your profile (here's how) so we can see them under your name next to your posts.
What's the brand and model of your power supply, some crappy 600W models won't be able to power a 8600GT. Open the computer case and check the sticker that's on the side of the power supply block. While the case is open check that there's no dust on the fans and heatsinks. Enter the BIOS at startup (repeatedly press del) and report your temps, fan speeds and voltages from the hardware monitor screen. Please confirm that you can't run the direct3D tests in dxdiag. If so you either have some serious hardware issue (underpowered or overheating video card), your installation of DirectX is corrupt or your drivers aren't installed properly. What's the exact error message in the BSOD (error code and message). Browse to c:\windows\minidump, zip the .dmp files that you'll find there and attach the .zip file to your next post using the manage attachments button. Quote:

Re: Blue screen when launching a game
Firstly thanks everyone for taking time in helping me with my problem.
The mesagge of the bsod is: IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL STOP:0x0000000A Now concerning Bios: Cpu Temperature:75 C Cpu Fan Speed:3443 RPM System Fan Speed:2100 RPM (i forgot the voltages )I tried to run again direct3d from dxdiag but a blue screen appeared, and when i disable it i can see movies whereas i couldnt see before When i had bought the video card with this power supply, it worked ok for 5 months but then started the problem of the bsod suddenly without adding new hardware! I got something here but i am not sure it is the file you asked justpassingby! The label on the computer says quest xpand and when i search it it gives results. |

Re: Blue screen when launching a game
@ godfather1109 : follow dai's instructions. Ask help if needed. We need the voltages readings (+3.3, +5, +12V) so get back in the BIOS and report them here.
@ log2 : a repair install won't help if there are hardware issues, and obviously there are hardware issues (overheating). Also the instructions you gave won't repair the system, they will only check the hard drive for issues on the drive's surface and in the file system. It's a good idea to check the drive but let's do that once the overheating problem is solved. Last edited by justpassingby; 10-19-2008 at 11:36 AM. |

Re: Blue screen when launching a game
godfather1109, I found your AXP-630P12P power supply :
http://www.axpertec.com/Product-powe...power_630W.asp Don't know if it's a quality model so I'll move your thread to the power supply section so the hardware techs can take a look, if you still have issues once the hardware problems have been solved they'll send you back in XP. The voltage readings from the BIOS would tell us more about the power supply. Last edited by justpassingby; 10-19-2008 at 11:44 AM. |

Re: Blue screen when launching a game [Moved from XP]
As dai implies you need to solve the overheating CPU problem first. Did you clean the dust with a can of compressed air ? Did you check that the CPU heatsink was attached properly ? It shouldn't move at all. The CPU temp should stay below 50°C in the BIOS.
Get some arctic silver 5 and refer to your motherboard manual to remove the fan and heatsink from the CPU. Carefully remove the remnants of the old thermal compound using Q-tips and acetone or isopropyl alcohol, don't scratch the surface of the CPU heatspreader nor the base of the heatsink. Then follow these instructions to apply the new paste. Reattach the heatsink and fan and see what temp you have now. |
