Dell 8250 RDRAM Help

Hello,

I'm new and I need help in upgrading my RDRAM. I have a Dell Dimension 8250 P4 with 512mb of Samsung RDRAM (128mb 1066-32p x 4). I recently purchased 1gb of Samsung RDRAM (256mb 800-45 non-ecc x 4) off ebay. I've done my research and I know my pc takes non-ecc memory up to a total of 2gb.

When I installed the new RDRAM and turned on my pc, I immediately got a screen that states that I have "unsupported memory" and that it requires "800-40ns memory or faster". Unless I am incorrect, I believe that I purchased the correct type of RDRAM and it should work because my new memory is faster than 800-40ns.

I've read on a few similar posts that people suggested that I clear my CMOS. Would that solve my problem? Is there anything else that I can do before I return or resell my new RDRAM? I really would prefer just to install my new 1gb memory.

Comments and suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Dell 8250 RDRAM Help

I cleared my CMOS by taking out the battery, inserting the new 1gb of RDRAM, then putting the battery back. When I turned my pc back on, I got the same message as before in which it stated that I had unsupported memory and needed PC800-40ns or faster.

Any other suggestions?

Re: Dell 8250 RDRAM Help

Is the following my problem with the ns?

"40 nanosecond (800 - 40) is faster than 45 nanosecond RAM.
The first figure (800) is speed, higher is faster, but the second figure is time where higher is slower.

You fitted 45 ns RAM, the message tells you it needs 40 or faster.

Lower nansecond speed (ns) = faster, just like 40 seconds is faster than 45 seconds"
