Adding lower-rated RAM
I currently have 1 x 1GB PC3200 RAM module installed. I have now freed up 1 x 512MB PC2700 and 1 x 256MB PC2100 from an old PC. I believe that, if I installed them, that would drag the speed of all 3 modules down to PC2100 speed. But would the additional 768MB of RAM make up for that? Or how about if I only added the 512MB module?

Re: Adding lower-rated RAM
Welcome.
Thats correct, The speed will lower, And if you use the 512mb the Speed will lower to 2700. You're best bet is to get another 1GB ( Exact same model as your current one ) and add that to allow dual Channel. The extra 768mb wouldnt make much of a difference at 2100. |
