Question ram probs with dell optiplex gx240

hello im looking for some help on my ram issue i just bought 2x 512 sdram for my dell optiplex gx 240 both working but only if i put in 1 stick at a time it wont run on both sticks so i had to put in 1 of my 256 sticks along with my 512 how can i run both 512 sticks

Thats odd. Your motherboard should be able to handle both. What are the specs of the RAM you bought? (make model etc)

just says 512m pc-133 both ports work with the 512 in them but just not together both same ram

Download memtest 2.01, burn the image to a CD, then run the program (on startup) on each of the sticks, one at a time. Take note of the results and post back here. Make sure you ground yourself to the case before touching the RAM!

That is correct... It sounds to me as though one of your sticks may be bad... If you have some RAM of the same calibre that you can pull from another box, it might be a good idea to do so... to at least test the theory...

lol i just got them shipped over from the states from a page on ebay only cost me £1 lol but £4 odds for postage and packin so that was kewl i will try the memtest thing first and get back to you thanks for your help most oblyged

Happens more than you'd think. I bought a 1Gb stick for an old HP machine, completely compatible, but full of errors. You have to think how much static electricity is running round the mail sorting offices.
