Random Freezing

Hello

I just built a new running Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit machine specs

CPU: CoreQuad 6600
RAM: 2 * 2gb DDR3 1066mhz
MOBO: MSI X38C mobo
VID: MSI GTX280oc
HDD1: WD 250gb SATA
HDD2: Seagate 500gb SATA
PSU: Thermaltake Tough Power 600w ( http://www.techbuy.com.au/product.as...ES_600W_-_699W )

I have been expericencing random freezes during normal operation and during gaming.

The computer locks up (cant move mouse etc and sound freezes) and requiers reboot. This happens every 5-15 minutes.

After extensive testing of drivers and testing of RAM and hard drives i have come to the conclusion that it may well be the power supply.

If anyone has had any exprience with this Thermaltake PSU or power requirements for similar systems any help would be greatly appreciated.

- Craig

Re: Random Freezing

Just to add on to this Nvidia state that the minimum system power requirment (total) for a GTX280 is 550w. Even though the cards peak consumtion is something more like 340w.

The thermallake 600w has 4 12v rails that have a combined loading of 48A.
Which intiallally when i purchased i assumed was sufficient.

Since problems began i have encountered several theries that something more like 700w is required for this kind of setup of that having a single 12v rail with 40+A is better.

Also i am unable to determine weather the 600w rating on the Thermaltake tough power is normal output or peak. If it is peak then determining the actual normal operating output would help me greatly with this problem.

Re: Random Freezing

Spamming my on thread hehe

On one of the pages i have been looking at it states that the Max power of this power supply is 600w is max the same as peak?

If so does this mean in general it is probably putting out a considerably lower wattage?

Re: Random Freezing

you have nowhere near enough power for that system you need to be in the 850w+ area

Re: Random Freezing

Thanks Dai I had a feeling this was the case going to upgrade to a Antec TruePower Quattro 850 ( http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=27850 )

Its interesting how easy it is to find information on CPU memory video card mobo but really hard to find infromation on PSU.

With these new power hungry gpus i hope alot of people dont get caught out like me

thanks again

Re: Random Freezing

they were supposed to be reducing power demands but they have been skyrocketing instead
antec supplies of late have had a question mark over their quality
