My moniter is not detected by the computer (think its powersupply)
Hello and thanks for the use of this site.
My problem started back a few days ago. i was basically doing nothing on the computer when it just shut down. i turned it on and before it could clear the check it said OVERCLOCK FAILED. now i dont know too much about overclocking, but i have never TRIED to do it. So it keeps going past that till it gets past the windows xp loading screen. a mouse pointer appears for one second. then disappears and the whole thing repeats the process, but it only rarely says overlock failed. Now i thought i had a fix for it but my computer will not detect my moniter. as in. it starts up, and if the computer isnt on i get a color test on the front. but as soon as it turns on it just goes blank. i was told to pop out the cmos for 20 mins. didnt do anything, moniter still wontwork Then i tried pulling each ram stick out individually. didnt work, moniter still wont work. i checked the video card, the fan turned fine, and i switched it to the onboard video on the motherboard. didnt help. The last thing i can think of is the power supply. Could that be a factor? does anyone else have any ideas? thanx i really apreciate the help. sorry if this isnt really the right forum. i had a hard time finding one that would work for this. what if the cpu didnt work? would that cause the problems with the moniter? or would i REALLY be ablet ot tell if it didnt. When it boots up it makes 1 beep and then two beeps. *EDIT* forgot to mention that if it was the cpu, and it had overheated. could that be caused by excess dust on the top of the fan? there really wasnt that much. If it indeed fried the CPU would the fix be as easy as swapping in a new one? or could it have damaged the motherboard? and if it did how can i tell? SPECS. ASUS pk5-V motherboard two 2gb g skill ram sticks one radion 512 MB video card. and the power supply came with the case (thinking that probably means its a cheap one) Last edited by aslonds; 09-08-2008 at 12:43 PM. |

Re: My moniter is not detected by the computer (think its powersupply)
First thing I would look at would be a new power supply. What cpu
do you have, and what exactly is your video card? I like this power supply, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139006 Unless you get real freaky with your system this is more than enough power, unless you do some major upgrading.
