Power supply seems to give off unpleasant plastic smell

I just built my first computer. After using it for several minutes, I started to notice a plastic smell coming from the computer. At first I thought it was the case, but the smell was stronger near the back of the computer. It is not a burning plastic smell, just a bad plastic smell. I am using the SeaSonic S12 Energy Plus SS-550HT powers supply. It is brand new and I have used it for only several hours. Is the smell going to go away?

Re: Power supply seems to give off unpleasant plastic smell

Seasonic is a great power supply (IMHO, the best that is made) and they stand behind their products 100%. BTW, that is the only brand I use in my personal computers. Anyhow, call them and see what they say, sounds like you may have a capacitor not performing correctly and it may be getting a little warm. If it is something that is not correct, they will send you a new one right away.

Re: Power supply seems to give off unpleasant plastic smell

Could it just be the "new power supply smell"?

Re: Power supply seems to give off unpleasant plastic smell

It certainly could be just breaking in if the smell isn't too strong. However, a word to the wise....call the company and ask, and then if something happens, you are on the front of the RMA request.
