Computer Crashes at Boot with 4GB of RAM
About two months ago, I bought new parts for my computer, including a dual 3.16 GHz Core 2 processor, a GeForce 8800 GT video card, an MSI P6N Diamond motherboard, and 2 sticks of 2GB DDR2 800 Kingston RAM. When I finally put everything together, the screen was completely blank and didn't receive any signal from the computer. So I had it looked at by some friends, who determined that the problem was with the CPU. Fortunately, I was able to have it replaced in time. But, that only solved part of the problem.
Now when I turn on my computer, it either crashes when loading the operating system (Vista) or freezes up at the BIOS loading screen. I was able to perform a Windows Memory Diagnostic Test from the Windows CD, but the test froze at 4%. Next, I tried using only one of the two sticks of RAM to see if they were somehow interfering with each other. But, when I tried to start up the computer, the screen would not receive any signal (the light would remain orange rather than green). I tried this with both sticks. Strangely, I once received the following error message when using both sticks of RAM: Quote:
Does this mean that my RAM is fried? I was thinking of taking it to a store to see if they could test it out, but I wanted to ask here first. Thank you in advance for any suggestions! |

Re: Computer Crashes at Boot with 4GB of RAM
The P6N Diamond doesn't appear to support the E8500 so that's why your last CPU appeared bad.
