Help! - Computer Will Not Power Up
Hello,
I have recently been asked by a friend to re-format his old PC but I have now encountered a problem which I can not seem to fix. During the formatting of the hard drive we left the room as being an older machine it would take a bit of time but when we returned to check up on how far it had progressed the PC had now turned itself off. I now can not power up the machine since this strange shut down. I have tried plugging it in to another power socket which did nothing. I then tried a different kettle cable (power cable) which again did nothing at all. I then tried checking all the connection of the components and connections to the power supply which all seemed OK but again this yielded no positive result. The last fix I tried was to replace the old power supply with a spare one I have which after installing and testing again did not power up the PC but for a brief second the heatsink fan spins. I really cant understand why the machine does now not power up anymore. Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem is and how to fix it? Thanks Ross |

Re: Help! - Computer Will Not Power Up
Thanks for the quick reply.
I've unplugged the bios battery and non-essential components and still nothing. As the heat-sink fan rotates for a brief second then stops would that imply fault circuitry and the only real option is to replace the motherboard? But also I take it if the motherboard has blown there is a chance other components have also? Thanks Ross |

Re: Help! - Computer Will Not Power Up
yeah as I said in my original post that the last thing tried and didn't work, I'm thinking motherboard has blown due to old machine buts its a real coincidence that the hardware went right when I was formatting the PC.
