ram ddr 2 problem

I have 2 module of 1 gb ddr2 ram , speed 667 and motherboard intel 102 ggc.

Recently upon checking i found it is detecting only 1gb ram, and by troubleshooting i have found that both ram are working. i switched it to other slot and also removing one by one. both works fine alone. but not in dual mode.

my bios shows me single channel. it show me 5-5-5-15 for both ram. This was working priviously and now it is not working.

my bios version is 1102m-86a-1065-2006-0502-1638.

i am not able to figure out why they are not working , even if i install both it detects slot 0 , module and not slot 1. if remove slot 0 module it will detect slot 1 module. and slot 1 to slot 0.

please guide for more troubleshooting.

Re: ram ddr 2 problem

sounds to me like your memory sticks are not a matched pair ?

if your motherboard has four slots for memory ...... they should be inserted as follows

one stick in the slot closest to the cpu / then skip a slot / then install the second stick in the third slot ?????

Re: ram ddr 2 problem

Both of RAM were working ok before. its true that i have bought one of them recently.
This problem appeared after moving from one place to other.

Both of them are from the same mfg. and with speed of 667. Even upon checking it in cmos one by one it shows same speed with same volt. and m/b i having only 2 slots.

Re: ram ddr 2 problem

Hi,
Is this your motherboard?
http://www.intel.com/support/motherb...ggc2/index.htm

Your posts are a bit unclear. Does BIOS recognise 2x1GB of RAM?

Memory Compatibility......

Re: ram ddr 2 problem

if i install both module , My bios does not detect both ram. and is showing only 1 gb ram at slot0 . I have checked both module by installing one by one. and both are working in any slot (0 OR 1). but when i install both of them , the bios is showing only 1 gb @ Slot0.

so i have removed slot0 module and kept the slot 1 ram as it is. then it will detect the slot 1. , i have also done the opposite way by removing the ram from slot 1. it will detect the other one. and from this i am sure that both ram are ok. but there is something wrong with the speed, or the bois settings.

Re: ram ddr 2 problem

Alpweb,
Are both your memory sticks from the same manufacturer e.g. Kingston, OCZ, Samsung etc and of the same standard?
If you download this small utlity it will confirm if your RAM has identical Timings...
http://www.filehippo.com/download_cpuz/2898/
Under the SPD tab of the program, choose Slot#1 and then Slot#2 and check the two sets of Timings are the same for 667mhz.

You also say in your posts that the RAM was working previously. Did you install any new hardware or software or alter the BIOS Settings in any way?
Have you tried clearing the CMOS, to reset your BIOS?
