High Ram Use

My ram use is normally at 1.1gb even right after I reboot. I have searched all the Processes that are running on google and all of them are normal. The only program thing I have running is Kaspersky. I don't understand why so much memory is used.

you're in vista. You're probably using aero. problem solved. if you're not using aero, then there is a problem.

Re: High Ram Use

Is that really a normal amount if using aero? What I don't understand is I used to have 1gb of ram and normally I about 500mb to 900mb would be used. But the other day I upgraded to 2gb and now I use even more ram. Why is this

Re: High Ram Use

my laptop idles around 1.5 GB using aero. so yes. And I have 3 GB of RAM with 128 MB put to GFX.

You put in more RAM so windows turned on more aero features is my guess. Either that, or a variable in how much it was paging to the hard drive, or maybe both?

Re: High Ram Use

I just changed the system settings to "Adjust for best performance" making everything pretty much look like Windows 95, rebooted, and my memory usage went down to 45%. I mean aero is making a bit of a difference given that when I had 1gb of ram and normally only used 70%, shouldn't I now only be using 35% now that I doubled it. I really don't think any more aero settings were turned on.

it's windows, you never know.

Easy way to tell- run vista as normal, check usage, go to standard vista (turning off aero), and check usage again.
