upgrading an old computer
we have 2 computer one is newly bought the other is old
heres the spec of the old computer mobo: p4vmm2 pentium 4 1.6ghz ram: 128mb ddr 333 -->512mb ddr 400 (upgraded it to 512 recently) graphic card: 32mb riva tnt2 model 64 (an antique card, still capable running nba live 2004, planning to upgrade to geforce fx 5500) PSU: 500watts (but it only has 17amps on its +12volt rail) so if i buy and install geforce 5500 will i have any power problems?cause i dont wanna buy a new PSU i rather buy a less power demanding graphic card. what about my ram, do you think i should put back the old 128mb ram (the 512 has 8 IC on it while the 128 only has 4, is thier any significant to that?) me and my brother wanted to play TIBERIUM WARS, OR NBA LIVE 2008 thats why i dont wanna sell the old one. and one more thing when i play nba live 2004 with the old computer i have this temps motherboard 57 c processor 49 c psu 45 c so if we play nba 2008 or tiberium war will the temperature go up?the old computer only has one fan and its not in an airconditioned room. |

Re: upgrading an old computer
Hi
![]() The temperatures are a bit high. Unplug the computer from the wall and open the case. Remove all dust inside with canned, compressed air. Make sure the fans and heatsinks are clean. If the motherboard has an AGP slot I'd get a Geforce 7600GS instead. Better card, and it uses a little less power than the 5500. |

Re: upgrading an old computer
The PSU should be able to run the card.
512MB RAM is OK with XP, 1GB would be better. You can use the old stick at the same time as the new, but they will both run at 333MHz. The 5500 doesn't get very hot - it won't add much to the temps. |
