No power to removable drives...

Hey all,

Let's see if anyone can help me with a problem that's driving me nuts.
Last night I put together a system out of all new parts.
My excitement turned to frustration when I booted it up and found that there was no power to any of my drives.
Neither of the two SATA drives spun up, and the DVD drive was non-functional. Additionally, the digital readout on my front-panel doesn't work (it plugs in to a normal IDE power connector).
Everything else works, though. The fans spin all spin up and the computer boots to BIOS just fine.

Any ideas?

-Michael

Re: No power to removable drives...

Well, it sounds like one of the rails isn't working on your PSU...what model PSU do you have?

Make sure that all your connectors are seated well, and if you have a modular PSU the connection is good. Are any of your fans connected to 4 pin molex? If so, try connecting your front panel to that connection to see if it works.

If nothing comes of any of that, I would RMA the PSU...

Re: No power to removable drives...

Yeah, that's what I thought too, but I was a little thrown by the fact that my rear case fan (which is attached to a 4 pin molex) spins just fine.
I'm so sick of receiving parts DOA. It happens waaaay too often.

Oh, and the PSU is a 550W Antec TruePower.

Thanks,

-Michael

Re: No power to removable drives...

What happens when you attach the rear case fan power to the other stuff?

Probably just the one rail dead...hey at least you found out now and not when you went to add another DVD or HDD right?

Re: No power to removable drives...

I just took a multimeter to my 4-pin molex connectors and it's just the 5v that's not coming through. The 12v is there, though.
Weeeird.

Stupid Antec.
