New PC problems...[moved from xp]
Recently I got a new PC (a ****ed out rig imo, probably because its the best I've ever had :D). Anyway, soon it started giving multiple and diverse problems. I'll list them as best I can (please note that i'm listing some to see if they are possibly correlated with the others):
My specs: Intel Quad core CPU 2.40 GHz Intel Buffalo Creek Motherboard nVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT Graphics card 240GB SEAGATE HDD 4 GB RAM (Windows 32bit on detects 3,24GB : / ) Windows XP SP2 - Disk Read Errors (solved): The pc would work fine, then on startup (usually in the morning after a use the day before) with a A Disk Read Error has occured Please press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart. After my pc was sent in it was fixed, but it kept recurring, Then they told us to disconnect and reconnect the HDD cable every time it happened. Eventually we got them to replace the hard drive, been fixed since. - Failure to start: When I press the power button, the light and pc will go on for a second or two before turning off. This only happens once every time I try to start the computer, as it starts fine afterwards. - Graphical Errors: This happens with all the games I've installed since getting the PC (namely Crysis, Battlefield 2, C&C Generals, Call of Duty 4). The game will either *freeze during the intro *Become grainy (random pixels flashing black) during the intro and/or the menu screen *Use random textures and icons (for example the mouse cursor will be replaced by a random icon or random wall textures will appear). Whats weird is that if I restart my PC the first game I run will usually work fine the FIRST time I use it after restart, afterwards it will malfunction. Restarting gives the same result etc. - Random restarts: Very recently the PC has started to restart randomly. This happened after playing CoD 4 online for a few hours (binging ftw). At first I thought it was overheating, but its happened during low power consumption periods aswell. I think it must have something to with me manually restarting the PC a lot to get out of the aforementioned graphical errors, thus screwing up the power supply by constantly giving and cutting power to the PC. Steps I've taken to alleviate the problem: - Downloaded latest graphics card drivers - Download of SP3 pending. Please help. |

Re: New PC problems...
Welcoem to TSF....
With the problems your computer is having and being brand new I would suggest that you contact the manufacturer of the computer or the company the built it for you and get their help this way anything wee try to have you do will not void the warranty on the computer. If you decide not to go this route do you have the recovery disk for this computer or a Windows install disk?

Re: New PC problems...
Let's take a look at the random restarting:
In order to figure out why you are getting random reboots, you need to make a settings change to your computer. Go to: Start > right click on My Computer > Properties > Advanced tab > Setup and Recovery 'Settings' UN check 'Automatically Restart'. Click OK. Reboot your computer. Now when Windows detects a problem it will not automatically reboot, but rather give you a blue screen. Blue screens are often called 'Blue Screens of Death' (or BSOD) by users, and 'Stop Messages' by Microsoft. We need to know the exact message you see when you get the blue screen. We especially are looking for a set of letters and numbers about half way down the page that take this format: 0x0000008e This is usually followed by a set of 4 similar numbers in parenthesis. For now we just need the first set of letter and numbers (before the numbers in the parenthesis).

Re: New PC problems...
This is to let windows give you an error message but alas none to be had.
From reading thru your first post I would suggest to have whom so ever that worked on the computer and I will assume it is the place that built the computer check the motherboard and see if it is in good working order, if they do and do it properly I think you will have a new or different motherboard THis is the one that bothers me most Failure to start: When I press the power button, the light and pc will go on for a second or two before turning off. This only happens once every time I try to start the computer, as it starts fine afterwards. There is something not working correctly here and if this is the case there may be more.

Re: New PC problems...
Like I said, it's ben in a few times, so the hardware must be ok.
But now that I think of it they have named problems with the motherboard before, which they allegedly "fixed". Can you please explain why the problem would be with the motherboard? |

Re: New PC problems...[moved from xp]
OK, but why would it give problems now? I mean its never gave me power problems before, and if it is underpowered then why should it be failing now instead of a lot earlier?

[Failure to start: When I press the power button, the light and pc will go on for a second or two before turning off. This only happens once every time I try to start the computer, as it starts fine afterwards.] still remains. Weird thing is, I didn't do anything.
