Dinosaur Upgrade
Hey guys, I'm trying to get some better response time out of my old computer. I'm a college student and only have about $100. Here is my current system:
Sony Vaio PCV-RX682 Mobo - Asus P4B266-LM (OEM to Sony) ATX CPU - Intel Pentium 4 2.2Ghz sSpec # SL68S PSU - OEM 280 watts; part # 1-468-601-14 RAM - (2) 512Mb DDR SDRAM PC2100 (133Mhz) GPU - Geforce2 Ti 4x AGP card - 32 or 64Mb not sure which Apparently this mobo will only support 1Gb of ram so I'm maxed out according to the literature. This board only has 2 ram slots (I think the models of this mobo that weren't Sony had 3 and supported up to 2Gb). Is there any way I can rig 2Gb with this board? I want to upgrade my video card with this one, so I want to replace my PSU. My current sucky one is in a housing that is 6" by 5&3/8" by 3&3/8" and its a real tight fit. Most of the PSU's I saw like this one are listed at 6 x 5.5 x 3.5 - but they did say that these were approximate dimensions. Do you think this will fit inside my housing? Feels like I'm calling it awful close - I don't want to use a hacksaw! Thanks for any help! |
