power supply problem or something else
so my pc wasn't registering the dvd drive i had, so I decided that maybe reconnecting the wires to the dvd drive would work. Instead of turning off the computer, I opened up the case while the computer was still running, unplugged the four wires that feed into the drive, then I was about the replug them in, and I heard a crackle and now the pc won't turn on.
Yes I know what I did was ridiculously stupid. I was wondering if the power supply is gone or if it's something worse like the motherboard, and I was wondering what I could do to fix it without having to buy new parts (if there is any way). yeah, i know that's a tall order, but i need some help. |

Re: power supply problem or something else
You may have fried something. Try clearing the cmos and see if that helps. Otherwise, bench test the system:

Re: power supply problem or something else
I actually left my pc alone for about 3 hours that night and it worked again. Sorry I didn't reply back to you guys, I forgot about this post until I saw the email. Thanks for the concern though.

Re: power supply problem or something else
probably popped a breaker in the PSU from the sudden power spike, and it reset itself after awhile.
