Power supply

I have a HP Pavillion 780c and the power supply fan doesn't work. I bought a 300watt replacement and notice that the original unit has a 3 connector plug, 1 green wire and 2 black wire, that is plugged into the mobo. My replacement unit doesn't have that connector. What is this connector for? And do I need it?

Re: Power supply

That connector is for the internal fan of the original power supply. The new power supply has the fan connected internally.

Re: Power supply

I did some research and found that it's a video connector. Do I need it?

Re: Power supply

I took a picture of it so how do I post the picture? I looked at the mobo and it has PS fan where this connector plugs into so it looks like it's for the fan. But what is a Video connector? I looked on Ebay for the exact replacement and it says that the unit comes with an HP video connector also besides the usual connectors.

Re: Power supply

the p7 is a floppy drive power plug, some video cards require one of these to be plugged into the video card
a p4 plug is usually the extra power plug to the m/b about half inch sqare with 2 black and 2 yellow wires
