Buying a new power supply for SLI set-up

Hi all

I am buying a new PSU for a SLI set up, with 2 Galaxy 9600GT's - But my problem is im not sure what PSU i will need to run these along with Asus P5N-E SLI Mobo, and P4 Dual Core E4500.

I asked a Pc shop owner and he recommended this PSU to me http://www.ccpu.com.au/show_prod.php?class_id=power_case&prod_id=GW550SEL

i thought i would double check that this can run all my stuff alright.
Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks,
Matt

Re: Buying a new power supply for SLI set-up

I would not even sell that power supply to someone I didn't like. That one is a no-no. Take a look around and see if you can find a 750 watt supply that has a good brand name. Here is a list of what I call "approved" power supplies, because they are not junk and they will pull what you want to do:

Seasonic - any model
Corsair - any model
Thermaltake - "Toughpower" series only
Coolermaster - "Real Power Pro" series only
PC Power & Cooling - any model
Silverstone - any model

BTW, Newegg.com has the Corsair 750 and PC Power & Cooling 750's on sale right now, so you might take a look over there.

Re: Buying a new power supply for SLI set-up

Ok well i had a look over at newegg and everything seems to be out of my price range. Im thinkin im going to have to put away a bit more money for the PSU because from what ive read - Cheap PSU = Cheap, nasty power to your computer. So...I think it'll be in my best interest to just save a bit extra and put away say $100 for a PSU? Unless anyone can recommend something that'll support SLI with 2 9600GT's for around the $50-$60 bracket...Although i dont think thats really possible unless its some cheap nasty heap of crap.

Well, thanks for your help :D

Re: Buying a new power supply for SLI set-up

You have it right. You have to do it right the first time with a quality power supply, or do it over when your purchase fails in a couple of weeks.
