Hi, I've been having a similar problem with my computer. It shuts off while im surfing the web with a few pages open or if i try to install something. it had windows vista and i thought it was just vista being a POS. so i reformatted to XP. that didn't solve it so i swapped the power supply. that didn't solve it so i swapped the hard drive. and it's still happening. i think it's the motherboard or the cpu. i have 2gb of ram and a pretty decent video card so i don't think these are an issue. please help!

Re: computer shuts down by itself
it's a custom built computer i got from a friend so i don't know a whole lot about what parts are in it. but i ran everest and it tells me this:
Video Card - Nvidia Geforce 6800 GT CPU - AMD Athlon 64 Mboard - Abit AV8 Power Supply - i'm not sure. I'd have to pull it out and look at it. let's leave that for last if possible. considering i swapped it i don't think it is the problem. as for the temperatures and voltages: Sensor Properties: Sensor Type Abit MicroGuru (ISA E0h) GPU Sensor Type Maxim MAX6646 (NV-I2C 4Ch) Motherboard Name Abit AV8 / KV8 Pro Series Temperatures: Motherboard 42 °C (108 °F) CPU 49 °C (120 °F) PWM 45 °C (113 °F) GPU 60 °C (140 °F) GPU Ambient 49 °C (120 °F) Seagate ST380013A 44 °C (111 °F) Cooling Fans: CPU 4397 RPM Voltage Values: CPU Core 1.51 V +3.3 V 3.35 V +5 V 5.17 V +5 V Standby 5.14 V 3V Dual 3.33 V North Bridge Core 1.55 V South Bridge Core 2.59 V HyperTransport 1.26 V DIMM 2.67 V DIMM VTT 1.36 V AGP VDDQ 1.60 V Debug Info F 49 00 00 00 00 21 00 00 Debug Info V 32 2A 5C 6F C4 C5 D2 53 70 75 63 D2 28 C3 BD 2E Last edited by winomate : 06-10-2008 at 04:28 PM. |

Re: computer shuts down by itself
what do you mean event? you mean some sort of event log? how do i view it? the computer will restart instantly and when windows loads back up it says it has recovered from a serious error. it says it's probably hardware related and that it doesn't know what exactly it is.

Re: computer shuts down by itself
meant event viewer
control panel/admin tools/event viewer you need to post the psu details when windows does not know the cause first suspect the psu
