ECC RAM question
I have done similar in the past on desktops but not servers. Say a server takes PC2700 ECC. Can PC2100 ECC work in this machine? Don't care about speed just compatibility. I know this scenario will work in a desktop with non-ECC.

Re: ECC RAM question
What you need to remember is whatever RAM you buy must be an EXACT match to the motherboard (server or not).
Suggest you use 4AllMemory's [Check My System] applet. This will download a small and temporary applet that will read your motherboard and return a WEB page showing you what you now have, memory slots, and RAM upgrades that match your motherboard. For brand-name motherboards they will have the manufacturer's p/n. You don't have to buy from them, but at least you'll know what you need. I was pointed to this site by my Corporate IT.
