What PSU do I have?
I'm a complete newbie when in comes to the world of computer hardware, but I'm definitely an enthusiast. I'm interested in over clocking my PC, but in the thread that says what you need to know, it says I need to know my PSU. After opening up the side of my PC, I saw a lot of confusing stuff, but I knew what most of it was, like the processor, the motherboard, and I knew what the PSU was (the box on the side that said Switching Power Supply) but I could only identify the brand, and couldn't find a model (or model number) on it. Could someone please help me identify it? I'll list everything I could see on the side of it, without lines to separate them, and with dots instead of spaces:
COLORSit.................Switching.................Intel Pentium 4 support ...........................Power Supply.................AMD Athlon support AC INPUT: 230VAC 10A 50-60Hz ...DC........+3.3V.....+5V.....+12V.....-5V.....-12V.....+5VSB OUTPUT.....20A.......30A......20A.....0.5A.....0.8A.......2.5A ..MAX.....................................400W Can anyone help me with this? |

Re: What PSU do I have?
We would not be able to tell the model by that information. It should have that name on the side also, so take another look.
As to the overclocking, we would need to know what the specs are on your computer including motherboard and video card. That would help to identify the power pull. However, with only 400 watts, sounds like you may be only on the edge of running what you have. Post the info back and we will take another look.

Re: What PSU do I have?
That number is simply the safety certification for the power supply. Does it say ATX somplace followed by other letters or numbers?
I missed one of your first statements. It is a Colorsit power supply. That power supply is going to be so weak that you are lucky it is running what you have (whatever that is, since you didn't give specs) Anyway, most likely you can't upgrade anything or overclock anything until you get a real power supply in there. Power supplies with only 20 amps on the +12 rail are just not strong at all, and then with the off brand it is, most likely it doesn't put out over 15 or 16 true amps.
