OCZ 800 RAM not running stable at 400 MHZ
Hello, I recently got two sticks of DDR2 (800) 6400 OCZ Gold edition RAM. I have taken out my old low frequency RAM and use used my new ones, as advised, since I want them to run at the highest frequency.
My Processor is AMD Athlon 64x Dual Core 3600 +. I had increased my FSB from 200 to 235, so when I first put in my new ram its frequency was in turn increased. It seems that my computer does not like this high frequency, as it blue screened and restarted right when windows began loading. So I put my FSB back to the original 200, and I made it past the load screen. It seems to log on alright, and with CPUZ i find it's running at about 400 MHz. Although every time various errors occur. Zone Alarm turns off True Vector Service, saying its due to increase in clock speed. When alt tabbing from fullscreen programs with music playing, the sounds freeze and play repetedly for a second until the alt tab is complete, like a stutter. Once my taskbar randomly went windows 98 style. Once alt tabbing just made my computer restart. None of this happened before and I believe it is due to the high voltage. In my BIOS I can manually set the RAM from the default of DDR2 800 to DDR2 667 which decreases the frequency from 400 to 333. When this is done it seems to be perfectly stable, however zone alarm recently has come up with a System Error: Please reboot sign and a big cross as an Icon.. dont know if the is related. However, I want to increase my ram back to DDR2 800 for full potential and frequency. I would also like to increase my FSB back to how it was. I think that to help it count with the high frequency the voltage of something needs to be raised, but what and by how much? On my sticks of RAM it says 1.8v, is it safe to increase it further? I have heard of a CPU/RAM ratio, where you can change it to make the CPU run at a higher speed but keep the ram frequency low. I cant seem to find it in my BIOS, anyone know what its called and where to find it? So im guessing I need to raise the voltage of something for it to cope with the higher frequencies, but what? Would changing timings help at all? |

Re: OCZ 800 RAM not running stable at 400 MHZ
The Ram didnt really come with much documentation, just in a package that had the installation instructions and brief details. Im not sure exactly what my motherboard is, how would I find out? I think it is a Gigabyte one, and in the manual it says it supports DDR2 800 RAM

Well in that case, its a GIGABYTE S-series AM2 support AMD socket AM2..
Supports dual channel DDR2 800 memory architecture Supports Nvidia SATA 3GB/s and RAID for storage application.. IEEE 1394? |
