my pc runs better on cheap ram?

When i built my computer I bought the cheapest ram for it I could find. It is Centon 1 Gb PC4200 x 2. When my mom asked me to build her a pc I bought componants that could interchange with my pc. I bought a barebones system that included PC6400 OCZ ram 1 gig sticks. I put those in along with a Q6600 into my pc and it froze often and I even got the blue screen of death a couple of times. I took the OCZ out and put back in the cheap stuff and now have no problems. I read the specs on my motherboard and Q6600 and the OCZ ram are not even the best stuff I can use. Why is there this problem?

I have an ECS 650i motherboard in case anyone needs to know.

Edit: after my pc has been running now for an hour on the cheap ram i can see it is performing considerably better...

Re: my pc runs better on cheap ram?

Im having a problem with OCZ ram myself. Does anyone know if this company makes crap ram? One of my sticks has failed the memtest and got errors now I have to use only a one gig stick now.

Just noticed that I have an ECS board also. I noticed in the manual OCZ wasnt tested on my board anyway.

Re: my pc runs better on cheap ram?

OCZ is the better of the ram, ECS on the other hand, is the worst of the motherboards.

Re: my pc runs better on cheap ram?

A lot of OCZ memory has non-standard voltage requirements. When you try to run with them check that your BIOS settings have the correct timings and voltage.

Re: my pc runs better on cheap ram?

all of the voltage info should be on the package right? Ill have to check that out. For ECS i agree with them kinda sucking, but the third motherboard i got fromt them is excellent. as for the first two... well thats why i have a third one... so i guess third times the charm haha
