quick ram question

working on a friends computer, and i am adding ram. there is already a 256mb running in one slot. other slot is empty. do both ram sticks have to be the same in memory size? or can a buy, say a 512 stick and pop it in the second slot and work fine with the 256?

Re: quick ram question

We will have to know the make and model of the computer or motherboard to answer this.

Re: quick ram question

They do not need to be the same size as long as the total amount of memory does not exceed 2GB.

Here is the Crucial page for your model.
