RAM? Sorry if asked

Hi I skimmed the forum a bit but I didnt see an answere to my question(s).

I bought a new computer it currently has 2xb 1g stick and 2x512gb total 3gb at 667mhz. I bought 2x 2gb @800mhz ddr2 6300/6400 AM2 samsung. With all of my searching and talking to dell it should work... but it wont boot, it will tell me in my viewer lcd comp screen thing that it see's it but there is a failure. I talked to the company that sold them to me and they apparently cant find any information about my MB. Anyway because of this I dont know if one or both are not working.. anyway on to my actual question my how I ramble haha... I need 2 of the same RAM in to boot can I take out the 2 512's leave in the 2 1's and put in the 2 2's to test them I just dont want to screw things up with them being different mhz is it safe any suggestions?

Thanks!!

Re: RAM? Sorry if asked

yea u can take all but one out and test, that way you'll know if one is faulty, and which one. just make sure your computer isn't getting any power, switch the power switch to off. in fact, right now i'm testing my pc on 1gb ddr2 gskill. took second one out. also there is a program from microsoft to test ur ram to see if there are any errors, called memtest. hope it helps

install just one stick (no others) of the two gig memory into the slot closest to the cpu / then try to fire it up

Re: RAM? Sorry if asked

yeah I always unplug it before sticking my hands in.. there is even a little light inside no idea what it is for but I wait until the light goes out so I know its drained of power. I have a bad habit of doing silly things inside my computers like pulling out the heatsink not realising the chip attached to the bottom is in fact the cpu and that they dont come attached like that... hahaha
