[SOLVED] Just bought memory, it isn't working...
I just bought 2 256mb sticks of SDRAM from someone on ebay, tested them with memtest, they're fine. However, when I put them in the computer, they aren't recognized, and when I put them in the computer alone, the computer doesn't boot at all.
I've uploaded text files with info on my PC and the memory here: http://files.filefront.com/Memoryzip.../fileinfo.html All I can think of is that I bought the wrong kind. Any help would be appreciated. |

Re: Just bought memory, it isn't working...
I tried all sorts of combinations. In any combination, the computer won't boot when either or both of the two new sticks are added, and when I put in both as well as a stick I already had, only the old ram is counted, in other words the new ones aren't. Maybe they're just not compatible with my computer?
The only difference I've noticed between the new (not working) sticks and the old (working) are the following: Different brands The old is 2 rows, 4 banks The new are 1 row, 4 banks |

Re: Just bought memory, it isn't working...
your motherboard needs low desnity memory ........ your board is one of the old very fussy models when dealing with ram
I would stick with 3 sticks of 128mb of ram you system maxes out at 384mb ram / this tells me it wont "play" with 256 sticks your board has 3 slots and a max ram configuration of 384 = 3 rows divided by 384 = 128 mb the sticks you need should be the same as your old ones (the banks of memory chips needs to be matched) sell off the sticks you just bought on ebay and get two more 128's
