Swapped Ram = Lower Computer Speed
Before I begin, I'm not entirely sure if it is a RAM problem or a virus problem. I posted a topic before mentioning that I had two RAMS from different brands (Kingston & TwinMos) running but my computer still felt slow. From what I understand, the compatibility issues arising from the two different brands would have caused my computer speed to slow down.
So here's a new problem. Right now I removed the TwinMos RAM & am using the Kingston (KTC1G-UDIMM) 1 gig RAM now. But the speed issue still exists where some applications just take too much time to load & even opening up "My Computer" will take a long time to load. I have this program called SmartRam where it gives me a liveupdate on the RAM usage my computer is using. I experience "lags" even though the programme mentions at least 700mb free. Similarly, my offline games also give me lags which I never experienced with the old one. Using the old TwinMos RAM is quite impossible as I have sold it of & the Kingston RAm I just got it within one month ago. I'm just going to mention that I'm not sure if it is a RAM problem or a virus problem but I'm going to assume that it is a RAM problem since my virus programme doesn't ring any alerts yet. P.S: I do understand that 2gig of RAM would be faster than just a single gig of RAM. But this situation feels like that is not the issue as all along I have been using 1gig of RAM & only recently I decided on the upgrade Last edited by The.Boi : 05-08-2008 at 11:05 AM. |

Re: Swapped Ram = Lower Computer Speed
check also your Task Manager what eats up most of CPU. try to end that application (only if possible) and see if it improves anything.

Re: Swapped Ram = Lower Computer Speed
in your post, if the values there are for RAM, check your antivirus application. temporarily end it and see if it helps improve the situation.
it could also be a virus. scan also your computer for any. or follow this: Is your PC running slow...?

Re: Swapped Ram = Lower Computer Speed
Hmmm, well I scanned my computer again just to make sure. So nothing's wrong at all. I just did a disk cleanup on the C drive too. Its still not helping though. The only option left is to defrag the drives.
I'm not sure if it will help but I'm going to post what I see from the programme CPU-Z under memory & SPD Memory Type: DDR2 Channels : Single Size: 1024mb DRAM Frequency: 400.1 Mhz FSB:DRAM: 5.6 CAS# Latency: 5.0 Clocks RAS# to CAS3 Delay: 5 Clocks RAS# Precharge: 5 Clocks Cycle Time: 18 Clocks Command Rate: 2T SPD Slot#1 DDR2 Module Size:1024mb Correction: none Max Bandwidth: PC2-6400 (400mHz) Manufacturer: Kingston Part Number: KTC1G-UDIMM Serial Number: 9135034F Timings Table Frequency 200MHz 266MHz 400MHz CAS# Latency 3.0 4.0 5.0 RAS# to CAS# 3 4 5 RAS# Precharge 3 4 5 tRAS 9 12 18 tRC 12 16 23 Voltage 1.8V 1.8V 1.8V |
