Pin RAM upgrade compatibility

Hi All

I have an Asus P5GD1-FM motherboard, i currently have 2x512 Modules of PC3200 DDR400 SDRAM installed.
I have 4 ram slots on the mobo 2 black and 2 blue. the above modules are both installed in the blue slots which i belive are runiing as dual channel.

Would it be ok if i added a single 1GB module into either one of the black slots or would i have to buy matching pairs?

Any feedback much appreciated

Thank you.

Re: RAM upgrade compatibility

It would be OK as long as its DDR 400mhz. The only problem is that the RAM would no longer be running in Dual channel.

Re: RAM upgrade compatibility

Thank you for your feedback.

So the new 1GB module would not run in dual channel, obviously as it is only a single module, but would the other 2x512 modules carry on working as dual channel?

Re: RAM upgrade compatibility

The existing 512MB modules won't run in dual channel with the new 1GB module in.
