new ram problems
i used to have a 1gb ddr2 533 mhz.....i recently added another 1gb 667mhz of the same brand......
i notice that windows takes 5min to boot(used to hardly take 1min).....then every game i run(including oldies like diablo2)....the game freezes for a few seconds n this happens every 2 mins. all this happened the minute i added the 1gb 667.... i ran mem test n it dint show anything wrong, bios shows 2gb of ram....y is this happening |

Re: new ram problems
vjbharadwaj,
Check your motherboard or PC manual to confirm this - but I don't think it's valid to mix RAM of different speeds. Try each RAM module by itself and see if both the 533mhz and 667mhz work separately. I'm pretty sure you'll need either two 533mhz RAM modules or two 677mhz RAM modules. - John

Re: new ram problems
mixing speeds like that is not a good idea and it most likely is the problem for the long boot up time. the 677 has to and will down step to the 533 speed during boot up. either go with two 677's or two 533's and as said above make sure the mother board can handle the speed of the ram you are installing into it.

Re: new ram problems
vjbharadwaj,
Go to (see page 1-14): http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/...6_m2npv-vm.pdf Section 1.7.2 clearly states that you should always use memory with the same CAS latency and recommends that you use memory from the same MFG. Clearly - if you're trying two modules of different speeds and this is not working - you need to by like pairs - same frequency, mfg, etc. If they don't make the 544 anymore, you need to buy another 667mhz module of the same make/mfg as the 667mhz module you currently own. If someone is telling you that this configuration is possible - bring the PC to them and ask them to make it work. I doubt the will be able to. - John
