Re: computer turns off on reset
LightBlue25,
Please reply with the exact make model of your PC or motherboard. How old is the system? What is the make/model of the power supply installed? I'm just guessing, but it sounds as if you've got some BIOS setting configured to put the PC in SUSPEND or HIBERNATION mode when the PC's power button is depressed. If this is an OLD PC or motherboard - you may have faulty CMOS or a bad battery. If it's a new motherboard - there might be an incorrect BIOS setting or jumper on the mainboard. Dumb question - but if you have a CD/DVD ROM drive or floppy diskette drive installed - are you leaving any media in one or both of those drives? Please reply with more detail and someone here should be able to help. - John |

Re: computer turns off on reset
the mb and cpu is new
mb - asus p5l-mx cpu - lga775 socket for intel core 2 do 2.20ghz 2 days ago it was working just fine, the thing is i uninstalled all the mb cpu to clean the chassis, and also uninstalled the cpu and i noticed not much thermal grease on it, i don`t know should it be fully wiped on the surface with the thermal grease or it`s fine to put tiny quantity of the grease ? in other words i uninstalled the hardwares and reinstalled them again without changing anything, to be honest i was confused about the system panel cables (HDD, PWRLED...) do you think the problem comes from there ? when i was reinstalling the cpu and the heatsink, small amount of the grease stucked in my finger, i guess i removed a little amount of the thermal grease without intention, maybe this small spot of the thermal grease which stucked on my finger made a difference ? and no i have no diskette in the floppy or cd in the cdrom. Re: computer turns off on reset
LightBlue25,
Normally you want to use just enough CPU heat-sink compound so it coveres the metal surface of the CPU without "oozing" over the metal part when you press the heat-sink onto the CPU. If you screw up, you can wipe off the CPU grease and apply a smaller amount to achieve these results. You don't want the CPU "grease" to ooze onto the rest of the chip or the contacts on the motherboard. A small bit usually does the trick. Did you re-connect all of the power supply, hard drive, case connector, LED and other jumpers on the motherboard EXACTLY as they were before? Did you make sure to plug in the CPU fan connector and any other case fan connectors back to where they were originally connected on the motherboard? Did you un-mount and re-mount the motherboard? If so, did you use the same mountings, stands, spaces and/or grommets are before? I ask all of this because if this problem occurred AFTER you reconnected the motherboard and/or other components, something which has changed in the process is likely the cause. Did you reconfigure or reflash the motherboard's BIOS? Did you change any jumpers or voltage settings on the motherboard? Did the grease from the CPU end up on any traces or components of the motherboard? Were you careful to reconnect all of the power supply connectors and other external connectors as they were before? Is your CPU connected properly and locked down in the socket? Go to: http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us Pick Motherboard, Socket 775 and P5L-MX from the drop-down lists to browse FAQs, drivers, manuals, etc from ASUS's support site. - John |

Re: computer turns off on reset
LightBlue25,
When you power-ON the motherboard, do you get any BEEPS from the motherboard's onboard speaker? If so, these are POST errors which are indicating a problem with the motherboard, memory, processor, etc. Are you able to boot into the motherboard's BIOS SETUP? If so, there should be a screen in there for monitoring the CPU/MB Temps as well as the fan speeds and possibly the voltages. Check out: http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/...737_p5l-mx.pdf If everything was working prior to your re-build of the system, the something obviously changed. If the problem occurred PRIOR to this, the either your Power Supply or Motherboard have likely gone bad. To eliminate the possibilities of shorts or faulty drives or cards, disconnect ALL hard drives, CD/DVD ROM drives, Add-on cards (except for video) from the motherboard. Power the system on with THIS configuration and see if you have any luck. If the system comes up this way, then something is faulty with one of the devices that you removed. If the system still fails to boot with everything but the video and PSU connected to the motherboard - then the problem is with either the PSU or Motherboard. Trying to help here, but need more information. - John |

Re: computer turns off on reset
yes problem solved
-------------------- i didn`t mentioned few things, the CPU speed was changing on every boot from 2.20ghz to 1.20ghz also. the CPU temperature was = 82 (or higher) ------------------------------------------ now i uninstalled the HEATSINK and the CPU, and installed them again, it turned out that the CPU and HEATSINK were not placed correctly now everything works just fine, the CPU SPEED is 2.20ghz and it does not change and the CPU TEMPERATURE is 75 max i didn`t notice the temperature before but now i noticed. |
